Training of Trainers Workshop on “Keeping Children Safe”

In the frame of the overall goal of the International Federation of terre des hommes towards child protection, “Keeping Children Safe” training of trainers workshop  was organized in Bangkok on 24-26 May 2012, with the support of OAK foundation and Keeping Children Safe Coalition.  This 3-day workshop aimed to strengthen the capacities of IFTDH members and its members as well as different child protection actors in Asia, in using KCS toolkit effectively and be able to deliver the training to other organisations in the region.

The Training of Trainer Workshop on “Keeping Children Safe” toolkit was organized on the 24th to 26th of May 2012 and 32 representatives from international NGOs, local NGOs and representatives of terre des hommes International Federation participated this event.

The training offered 4 modules: understanding child safeguarding and engaging children in safeguarding efforts; building knowledge and skills to use the Keeping Children Safe toolkit for child protection to engage children in safeguarding measures; introduction to competencies for child participation; and introduction to competencies for training.

In the opening ceremonies, Mr. Alberto Cacayan, Regional Coordinator of terre des hommes Germany in Southeast Asia, gave the welcome speech, followed by Mr. Sylvain Fournier, Risk Manager of terre des hommes Lausanne, who introduced the KCS tool kit.. Mr. Sanprasit Koompraphan, CRC Commissioner of Thailand, gave remarks and emphasized the importance of Child Protection as well as shared some interesting case experiences in Thailand.

The following event was three-day Training-of-Trainer (TOT) workshop conducted by four trainers – Klevis Vaqari, U Aung Htun, Arulanantham Soosaithasan and Dee Jethwa from terre des hommes Lausanne, under the supervision and instruction of Mr. Fournier. The training-workshops were conducted in two separate groups, each group consisting of 16 participants and 2 trainers.

Thirty two participants who attended trainings were from different countries, namely the United States, Italy, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Venezuela, Cambodia, Myanmar and Thailand. They come from 16 organizations – terre des hommes Italy, terre des hommes Lausanne, terre des hommes Netherlands, terre des hommes Germany, UNICEF, World Concern Asia, Rights to Play, International Rescue Committee, Adult Basic Education Society, Hill Area and Community Development Foundation, Cambodia Organization for Children Development, Think Small Foundation, Gab Fai Community Theater, Mae Sai Grace Church, The Center for the Protection of Children’s Rights, and Komar Rikreay Association Cambodia.
